Delhi : An Education Destination

Delhi; The Capital of India is one of the best cities to live in; both, in terms of facilities as well as educational & career opportunities. The presence of reputed, esteemed educational institutions, catering to numerous study disciplines at distinct level, be it humanities, sciences, engineering, technology, medicine or management makes Delhi a Hot Education Destination. The educational opportunities enhances the prestige of Delhi which is already famous as a historical city, the national capital of India and a world class city as well.

Many of the finest Institutions of India are present in Delhi. There are 15 Universities and nearly 85 colleges; 55 management institutes ; 7 medical colleges; 10 Engineering colleges ; large number of computer institutes; 314 higher secondary schools; hundreds of preparatory schools and good number of other institutes spread across length and breadth of the city. Small wonder therefore, that it has become a seminal point of attraction for students and aspirants from four corners of India. That apart students even from countries like the United States, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, West Indies, South Africa, Malaysia etc (find a detailed list at the bottom*) come to pursue their studies in Delhi.

Another major factor which draws students from different parts of the country to Delhi as compared to other cities is the quality of education and living cost. Students’ hostels or the paying guest accommodation system also called PG accommodation is cost effective in Delhi; they are to be found in vast numbers in Delhi. The ambience is excellent, and one can easily adjust with the new environ. People in Delhi are generally warm and accommodating in nature. Down the years, the saying that holds true for Delhi is : Dilli hai Dilwalon ki (the people of Delhi are big hearted).

Leading institutions of Delhi like Delhi School of Economics (DSE), Jawaharlal University (JNU), Delhi University (DU), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) have now acquired international status. Students who have passed out of these institutes have excelled in the professional fields and turned into renowned authorities on their respective fields.

Education in Delhi: The global perspective

It would be interesting to note that in terms of higher education, Delhi has a fairly long record of receiving students from various countries, who come here to study various indigenous subjects like Fine Arts,Hindustani classical music (vocal/instrumental), Buddhist studies, Sanskrit and other Indian languages, Indian philosophy and so forth. Foreign students from underdeveloped/ developing countries come here for higher studies in agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary sciences besides medical and engineering.
