Indian Statistical Institute


Indian Statistical Institute came into being in the year of 1931.Today Indian Statistical Institute is a world-renowned centre for specialized education in the field of statistics. Presently it has campuses in Calcutta, New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

It now boosts of over 250 faculty members and over 1,000 supporting staff and several modern-day personal computers, workstations, minicomputers, supermini computers and mainframe computers.

The major objectives of Indian Statistical Institute are:

  • To promote the study and dissemination of knowledge of Statistics, to develop statistical theory and methods, and their use in research and practical applications generally, with special reference to problems of planning of national development and social welfare;


  • To undertake research in various fields of natural and social sciences, with a view to the mutual development of Statistics and these sciences;


  • To provide for, and undertake, the collection of information, investigation, projects and operational research for purposes of planning and the improvement of efficiency of management and production

Programmes offered:

  • Master of statistics


  • M.S in Quantitative Economics


  • Part-time course in Statistical Methods and Applications


  • Junior/Senior Research Fellowship


  • Specialist Development Programme in SQC and OR

Eligibility:

M.Sc. courses are a graduate degree in science with Mathematics/Statistics or a graduate degree with Agriculture and for Ph.D. programme are Master of Science in Agricultural Statistics or Statistics or Mathematical Statistics or Professional Statisticians Certificate Course (PSCC) from IASRI(Formerly IARS).
